Detailed description is Located 9 miles North of Bowling Green, KY on the intersection of Threlkel Ferry Rd. and Lodge Hall Rd., Green River Union Cemetery is an important part of the community of Richardsville - containing graves dating back to the early 1800s. The early gatherings of Green River Union were held in the home of James and Rhoda (Chastain) Hudnall around 1816. The first 2 acres of land donated for this beautiful sight was given by Joseph and Peggy (Miller) Herrall on August 21, 1835. [Warren County KY Deed Book 15 page 579] A small log structure was built near the current cemetery by descendants of the earliest pioneers to settle in the area. They include members of the Hudnall, Taylor, Penner, Miller, Young, Herrell, Upton, and Runner families. [Sumpter] A historical marker located on Hwy 263 near Hwy 185 reads: "Green River Union Meeting House, part of Great Frontier Revival in early 1800's, and burial ground are three miles northwest. Huguenots came in 1806 and 1814, organized and built log church, then about 1845 present meeting house. Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, met there before building own churches in area. Many leading ministers of those days were trained there." [Dedicated on August 23, 1964 - Kentucky Historical Society and Kentucky Department of Highways #662] The Old Meeting House was removed in 2004 due to disrepair. However, a memorial structure was erected on the site in 2005 using the center posts, beams, old steps, foundation stones, and chimney rock salvaged from the meeting house. The cemetery began as the Miller family burial site and was deeded to the trustees of Green River Union Meeting House. Additional property was deeded in the 1900's. Many community families are buried at this location including veterans and historical individuals. A feeling of peace exists on top of the hill that can be found in few places.
