Detailed description is We are a edible landscaping company using holistic and permaculture practices to heal the land. We do consulting and design work nation wide. We came to a crossroad after several years of awareness to the practices & consequences of industrial agriculture. The harmful effects of factory farming & our chemical-based conventional agriculture system are leaving a huge burden on public health, as well as our land & water. As parents, we carry this burden heavily, knowing that we can either leave a legacy for future generations or we can leave a calamity.. . We made a decision in the late fall of 2010 & began to shift our market; helping our fellow Floridians learn about organic growing methods through workshops & courses on small space gardening & teaching how to use edibles in their existing landscaping. We held classes, open to the public to share subjects like seed starting, composting, planting fruit trees, perennial edibles & other beneficial trees & plants for Florida properties.. . Ironically, our 14 years of previous business ownership has been in the traditional Florida landscaping industry. Before we shifted focus, we once installed grass & ornamentals that require large amounts of water & other resources. We had freely handed out referrals for chemical fertilizer, pesticides & herbicides. But now, we teach alternatives that build & repair soil, harvest water, produce food & provide habitat for beneficial insects.. We began as a lawn & landscape company in the Tampa Bay area 13 years ago. After witnessing many years of hazardous synthetic chemicals, in a petroleum-loaded industry, we decided to start transitioning away from this destructive practice of "maintaining grass". We began sheet-mulching over grass & converting consumption properties into production properties: veggie gardens & food forests. We are proud to be joining natureβs revolution in bringing our food back to the way it was always intended to be grown: without chemicals & without a hefty price tag. . . Pete & Melissa Kanaris (founders of GreenDreams) have had a personal interest in holistic living & growing food for the last 8 years. We believe that the future of this nation is directly affected by the food on the table. Industry farming (monoculture) has left our beautiful planet & the health of our children in a heap of trouble. We feel it's time to vote with our dollars: If we go back to the days of the Victory Gardens (following WWII), we could all afford a really tasty meal that won't leave us sick or broke.. . We want peace-of-mind in knowing how our food is growing,. for the safety of our children & this planet weβre bestowing.
