Detailed description is Celebration of Worship HISTORY: The earliest recorded deed of the Greer's Chapel Church is dated 1860. According to legend, an established church was located on present site well before the Civil War. The original Greer's Chapel building was a log structure with rived board roof, puncheon floor and wood-shuttered windows. It housed both a Methodist Protestant Church and a conscription school. A new church building was erected in 1910. This building was a one-room frame construction, had a shake red-wood roof, glass-paned windows and floor of planed wood.. Because of the Great Depression and World War II, many people moved away from the community and church was virtually abandoned. In 1950, the church was reorganized with conference affiliation. Remodeling was done in 1967 and a building fund was authorized in 1976. A large bequest in 1983 made a definite building plan possible. A new brick facility was the result of the final building plans approved on July 12, 1984. The Wesley Parish officially came into being with a beginning date of March 1, 1982. The Wesley Foundation at Southern Arkansas University, Emerson, Lydesdale and Greer's Chapel were part of the Parish. Later the Emerson Church was placed with another parish.
