Detailed description is GVSU Dance Troupe provides an opportunity for dancers and choreographers to express their passion for dance in a fun environment. It is a non-competitive, student-run dance organization that caters to all dancing styles and levels. Grand Valley Dance Troupe is a student organization that was founded in 1996. Over the past years, our organization has grown from 25 to 250+ dancers, making it the university's largest student organization. In 1997, we received recognition as the Best Student Organization on Campus, as well as the Most Improved. Dance Troupe was also recognized during the 2010-2011 season by the Community Service Learning Center, receiving the CSLC Spirit of Service Award and the CSLC Spirit of Philanthropy Award for our hours of service, as well as our donations to two local charities. In recent years, Dance Troupe has collected donations on behalf of many organizations including Toys for Tots, Mel Trotter Ministries, Grand Raids Public Schools, and most recently, the Rainbow Connection. Our goal each semester is to work together to raise money or donate supplies to an organization through the generous help of our members, family, and friends.. . Requirements:. 1. Attendance at Sunday meetings (every other week). 2. Participation in two fundraisers. 3. $25 dues paid each semester. 4. Become a member through Orgsync. . . FAQ:. Do we need to try out?. No! You do not need to try out to be a member of Dance Troupe! Tryouts are only held for individual dances and are at the discretion of the choreographer.. . I've never danced before, will I be the only one?. No! Dance Troupe is open to students of all levels and abilities! We offer beginner dances for those new to the art of dance, all the way through advanced levels for those who have been dancing their whole lives!. . What kind of time commitment will I need to make?. YOU are in charge of YOUR schedule! We will publish a schedule at the beginning of the semester with the classes available, and you can choose which dances you want to attend. Each dance class is 40 minutes long and is offered once a week. The only other commitments are our every-other-Sunday meetings, Spirit Week (the week leading up to the recital), and participation in two fundraisers.. . .
