Detailed description is Two days of Native American culture, art, music, dance and crafts, plus numerous exhibits relating to the environment and the world around us. . . The 2017 Hammonassett Festival will be held on Saturday September 30th from 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday October 1st from 10 AM to 5 PM. Once again, we’ll be at the Guilford Fairgrounds in Guilford, CT, because of the utility project still underway in Hammonasset Beach State Park.. Each morning will begin with a Native American Blessing and Smudging Ceremony, led by Allan Saunders (Mohegan). The ever-popular Native Nations Dance Troupe, led by Erin Meeches (Schaghticoke), will return with multiple performances each day. And this year we welcome for the first time, Redhawk Native American Arts Council with performances by Aztec Dancers and Peruvian Scissor Dancers.. There will be even more Native American music throughout the weekend and many vendors with authentic Native American arts and crafts. The Festival features live wildlife shows presented by A Place Called Hope, a local raptor rehabilitation center, and the Meigs Point Nature Center. The New England Atlatl Championships, where you can try your hand at the ancient skill of spear-throwing, will take place until Sunday afternoon. And rounding out the weekend will be children’s activities, museum outreach programs, environmental exhibits, and a variety of food choices. . Save the Dates and look for more information here. . . .
