It all started with chickens and apples. Sound odd? Well, that’s where the story of Hoard’s Bakery begins! In 2005, Erin and Jonathon Hoard, who lived on an apple orchard, decided to start raising chickens! They started selling apples and organic eggs at the local farmers markets. They soon realized that they could utilize both of these items to make other products to sell. This is when Erin started making angel food cakes and her grandma’s famous “Mile High Apple Pie.”. . After continuously selling out of product well before the end of the Farmers Markets, they realized that consumers loved Erin’s grandma’s recipes just as much as they did. As time went on, Erin and Jonathon had their own bun in the oven and knew they needed to expand the business to provide for their family! So what was the next step? Contacting the local food co-op to see if they could sell their delicious desserts on their retail shelves! This turned out to be such a success that in 2010 Erin & Jonathon decided to open up their very first bakery in Riverside, Iowa.. . The bakery was a small, but active. Bright and early every morning the two of them would get up and start baking. As demand increased, they hired several of their siblings and cousins to help out in the bakery– even the kids helped out from time to time! In 2015, the couple realized they had out grown their bakery and started renting a new, larger facility on the outskirts of Riverside. They are currently in the process of renovating this facility and hope to have it up and running by fall of 2016! Until then, they are still baking away at their original location.. . Consumers continue to rave about Hoard’s Bakery items. They love how wholesome, fresh and delicious all of their products are. It turns out Granny Marge knew exactly what she was doing back in the day. Hearing that their products “taste just like what their grandma used to make,” never gets old!
