Horizons is a tuition-free national six-week summer academic enrichment program that addresses the achievement gap and summer learning loss for public school students from low-income families that qualify under the federal income guidelines for free and reduced lunch. The program not only provides a summer component, but it also offers additional Saturday and after school enrichment opportunities throughout the school year. Two thirds of the students accepted into the program are at or below grade level upon entering, and research has shown an average increase of two to three months in academic skills, especially reading and math. The program blends academics with arts, sports, and cultural enrichment as well as confidence-building activities, particularly swimming and tennis. The cumulative gain in skills is truly transformative, narrowing both the achievement and the life opportunity gaps that otherwise undermine success for low-income children.. . Through Horizons, public and private schools create an enduring partnership. We are happy to announce that Horizons Albuquerque at The Bosque School is an official partner with Albuquerque Public Schools (APS). We look forward to welcoming students from Albuquerque’s North and South Valley neighborhoods to the Bosque School campus. Our three partner public schools are: Griegos, Los Ranchos, and Navajo Elementary Schools. Each school receives Title I funding and nearly 100% of the students attending these three schools are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
