Transformational Mentoring and Educational Programs. It Just Takes 1 is an exciting new nonprofit that recognizes what research has shown us all time and time again: People learn, grow, and develop in an environment of trust, acceptance and emotional security. To that end, we offer courses for all ages, because there no time in one’s life, where a person could not benefit from a supportive, educational environment with the end goal being personal growth and ever- evolving awareness. . We presently offer the following classes and will expand the offerings, as we expand as an organization:. 1. The Artist Within – in session and funded by the Haines & Friends Fund in Ashland. . Anna Loeffler is offering three six-week courses in art exploration for young adults. Along with volunteers, she guides the participants through a series of artistic experiences which will not only expose the young artists to next, exciting and fun projects, but will foster group cohesiveness, personal insight, working with others, respect for self and others and a new or renewed belief if one’s self. The role of the mentor is essential in this growth process. Positive feedback, a person to share with, an opportunity to explore artistic and personal potential are important byproducts of this mentoring relationship. Group one is already underway and the excitement is palpable.. . 2. Writing as Legacy – will begin in 2016 – Marlene Wagener, Instructor & Mentor. Writing as Legacy was piloted at Veranda Park and OLLI in 2014 & 2015 with retirees wanting to see their mortality and the legacy they were eventually leaving behind in new ways. With the help of Marlene Wagener, a writing teacher, writer, and coach, the class is led through a series of writing challenges, offering up to the generation left behind a true picture of what may have once been a “mother,” “father,” or friend. Who was my mother really? What was she like as a young woman? What did she dream of? What did she want for her life? Writing about the challenges, memories, and experiences that shaped our path and choices, the participants get to redefine themselves to their loved ones, often opening doors of communication never before thought possible. This class is transformational and no one leaves it without a deep knowledge of the gifts they have to share with people they love. This class is limited in size and has strict rules of confidentiality due to the nature of sharing within the group. Fee will depend on outside funding.. 3. Conscious Aging – will begin in 2016 – Marlene Wagener, Instructor & Mentor. More and more baby boomers are realizing that the “third act” for them in quite different than for previous generations. People are living longer and healthier. And even though they may wish to retire, they are not ready for the rocking chair. Rather, they are excited about this new chapter. Conscious Aging is about learning to live every minute with vitality, purpose and fully conscious. It is about making decisions on purpose, choosing life, thinking about mortality in positive ways, and looking at one’s life with a renewed insight and compassion. This class incorporates, reading, writing, sharing, and discussion of some of the most cogent aspects of the “third act” of life: Life Review, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Purpose and Planning for living fully in the moment with one’s eyes and heart open. It is conducted in 8-week sessions and participants must pay for workbooks, $20.. 4. Stewards of Children, 2.0 – Stopping Child Sex Abuse in our lifetime – Marlene Wagener, Facilitator, Mentor and Trainer of Trainers.. One of our most solemn duties as citizens of our community has is to protect our children from child sex about. This two-hour training gives parents, grandparents, and all adults the tools to literally prevent this devastating crime from touching another child in our community. As the former Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Center of Jackson County for 7 years, Marlene was the first trainer of trainers in this important program and trained community law enforcement so that they could teach others. With her vast expertise in the field, she is well versed in teaching this topic. Marlene brings the same passion to mentoring adults of all ages to It Just Takes 1. Truly, it just takes one person to save a child, if they have the tools. There is a $10 fee for the workbook. . 5. Upcoming classes and exciting news:. a. Parenting 2.0 – raising children in the 21st Century.. b. It Just Takes 1 is partnering with Barbara Peeters of Silver Foxx Films in 2016 to make the hard-hitting documentary, Inheritance of Rage.
