Detailed description is Kurt's Green Acres was started by Kurt Kuehnhackel over 40 years ago. It is now operated by Rick Mess and Mike Schwarz. All the vegetables are grown locally and they minimize the use of chemicals unless absolutely necessary. The sweet corn is grown at the Elmer and Rick Mess farm on Utica Ridge Road. The Mess family has been growing the best honey and cream sweet corn in the area for many years. It is served at the Machine Shed and the Mississippi Valley Fair each season. . . The farm on Utica Ridge is also the home of The Little Red Barn where Elmer still sells a huge variety of annual bedding plants, i.e. flowers and vegetable plants at very reasonable prices. Elmer also sells his creative pre-potted flower arrangements for your ourdoor landscaping.. . They also set up vendor stands at at two local farmer's markets. The Quad Cities “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” Freight House Market on Saturday's in Davenport and Monday's at Trinity Terrace Park In Bettendorf. We are the only vendor at the Davenport market that sells fresh roasted sweet corn on Rick's specially designed corn roaster. Check out the photo on the FB wall.. We also have green beans, yellow wax beans, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, new potatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, summer and winter squash, kohlrabi, beets, broccoli, eggplant, and melons, when available. We also have apples when in season, and fresh apple cider made on site.. We strive to make our prices very affordable, and to have the friendliest team to serve our customers! Come out and see us.
