Detailed description is Fine artist Lori Ryland owns and operates loriryland.com Art Studio & Gallery in Sandy,Oregon, featuring exhibits, events, classes, and supplies. Artist Lori Ryland is working on a body of work called “Bridges to Portlandia” . Half fantasyland, not too populated, a little “weird” by most standards, and definitely a place to play. Lori is a photographer and a painter. Her paintings on canvas look like photographs and her photographs look like paintings on aluminum. Lori's subjects are Portland’s Bridges, rather stoic structures that typically may have been thought of as being rather stiff and rigid, with dull colors from typical grey Portland skies, become flexible elastic dancing shapes with colorful individual personalities. "I wait for those moments in Portland, in between the drops of rain, when it becomes time to chase the rainbows. I look for blue intense sun filled skies, scattered with white cotton ball clouds, to take me to the moonlight in the daylight, with yellow roadways like the land of OZ.". . . . Lori Ryland spent the first part of her life in Portland, Oregon where she was born and raised, receiving a B.F.A. from the Pacific Northwest College of Art participating in shows at the Portland Art Museum, Marylhurst College, and galleries in Portland. Her “Light of West Burnside” series of paintings and drawings were featured in an academy award nominated film, “They Knew You by Name”, funded by the National Endowment of the Humanities, as well as Spectrum Magazine of the Arts. Lori's paintings have been purchased by the State of Oregon Arts Commission, the Portland Metropolitan Arts Commission, the Washington State Arts Commission. Lori Ryland moved to to Los Angeles, where she was represented by James Clarke Contemporary Art. She participated in shows juried by the San Diego Art Museum, the curator of the UCLA Hammer Museum, and was represented by the William Merrill Gallery, in Laguna Beach, California. Her artworks have been featured in the Oregonian, the Downtowner Newspaper, Calyx Magazine funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Oregon Arts Commission, Portland Review Magazine, and the American Artists of the ReKnown publication.She has received grants from the Metropolitan Arts Commission in Portland, the Puffin Foundation, and the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition managed by the Clackamas County Arts Alliance.. . The artist opens her studio and gallery loriryland.com STUDIO & GALLERY, in Sandy, Oregon, to the public from from 5 - 8 PM on the first Friday of every month and is available by appointment. She also teaches acrylic painting classes (along with some instruction in PHOTOSHOP CS6) where she teaches a painting process that she designed that she calls a "3 STEP 3 COLOR PROCESS", where students complete a realistic painting using only 1 color at a time, without mixing any of the colors together. These classes are held on Monday days from 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Monday nights from 6:30 - 8:30, and on Thursday nights from 6:30 - 8:30. Lori also works with Teens and Young People teaching them painting, drawing, traditional and digital medias, as well as photography on Mondays, Wed, and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:30 or 4:00 - 6:00 PM.
