Detailed description is This project, the Lummi Te'Ti'Sen Center, has been a goal of the Lummi Nation since this land was procured back in 2004. The land was obtained to further the Lummi Nation Economic Development Plan and after many years was taken into trust for the purposes of establishing an economic and cultural gateway to the Lummi Indian Reservation at an accessible location for the greater community. . Through the creation of a partnership with the Northwest Area Foundation the Lummi Ventures Partnership was created to provide means for sustainable poverty reduction and to further the Economic Development strategy in the Lummi Ventures Partnership strategic plan. In order to achieve the goals within the Ventures Strategic Plan for Economic Development, which included a microenterprise center the Lummi Ventures Partnership sought additional funding sources to create the center. It was only through the efforts and additional funding from the Lummi Nation, Northwest Area Foundation, Rural Business Enterprise Grant, Economic Development Administration, Washington Department of Commerce--CTED, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation that make the Lummi Gateway Center possible.. This small business incubator is the first of its kind in tribal communities throughout the country, Lummi Gateway Business Incubator, is a nearly 10,000 square-foot micro-enterprise center serving existing and start-up tribal entrepreneurs.
