Lynton & Barnstaple Railway - Train in Devon,England

Devon, Others

England, United-kingdom - DT7

Detailed description is #lyntonrail - Bringing narrow-gauge steam transport back to Exmoor National Park... The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway - a two-foot narrow gauge line meandering 19 miles across North Devon - opened as an independent line in 1898, but closed only 37 years later, then owned by the Southern Railway. . . All of the original trackbed was sold off piecemeal, and the rolling stock was mostly scrapped, although some fragments have survived, and are being put back together, as is the trackbed, whenever sections become available. . . A mile of the original line has now reopened, and mainly through the efforts of an army of volunteers, and supporters, the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Trust - a registered educational trust - aims to restore as much as possible of the 19 miles of the original, again linking Barnstaple to the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth by rail. Following the success of restoration groups at railways such as the Talyllyn, Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland, we believe restoring the L&B is ... . . "The Last Narrow Gauge Railway Adventure".
