Over 181 years ago the first African American was initiated into the fraternal order of Freemasonry.
He founded the first predominately black lodge, African Lodge #459, in Boston Massachusetts and assumed the responsibility of educator, leader, provider and many other titles for his community and his people.
After his death the organization was renamed in his honor to Prince Hall Freemasonry.
Since that time the organization has grown to over 500,000 members worldwide and continues to grow daily.
