Detailed description is The MCSO Mounted Unit/Posse is a volunteer group of more than 20 horsemen/women and law enforcement personnel. In 1967 then Sergeant Moreland (who later became Sheriff Don Moreland) stopped in at a training of the Marion Saddle Club while they were practicing at the Mills Livestock Market on Highway 40 West. Being a man with foresight he saw that there was a need for a group of professional horsemen/women to assist the sheriff's office. Moreland realized the importance of horses assisting law enforcement and asked them to volunteer at the sheriff's office which they graciously did. Fast forward some 40 odd years and the Sheriff's Mounted Unit/Posse has evolved into a large group of sworn and non-sworn individuals who have love of horses, law enforcement, and community and make it a part of their lives to give back as much as possible.
