Detailed description is Since 1989, Richard has been teaching American Sign Language & Maritime Sign Language to a multitude of people, from beginners to professional sign language interpreters. He acquired the American Sign Language Teaching Certification from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton while obtaining other recognized certifications:. . • Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, Vancouver Community College, BC. • Sign Communication Proficiency Interviewer (SCPI) with APSEA (Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority) – 1997-1999, NS. • ASL Evaluation Trainer, York University, ON. . Richard’s teaching career has taken him from one side of the country to the other. During the day, he has taught interpreter students in the ASL/English Interpretation programs at Douglas College, BC (1989-1994) and the Nova Scotia Community College (1994-1999). At night, he has taught the Signing Naturally Curriculum Levels 1 & 2 to up & coming signers. His passion and energy for teaching is very evident in all his classes.. . Now Richard has established his own sign language consulting firm that allows him to give the learner more flexibility outside the college curriculums. Classes are more readily available and Richard is able to adapt the classes to suit the needs of individuals and businesses.. . In addition to his sign language classes, Richard continues to educate the more experienced signers by offering hands-on workshops in a comfortable, well-structure environment.
