I am a Certified Labour/Birth Doula through DTC (Doula Training Canada). I have just recently decided to take this new path in my life as a way of helping moms and their families in their journey through pregnancy and birth. My hope is to help them achieve every wish they have for the birth of their new baby by educating and supporting them with their choices and providing them with the information they need to make this journey a pleasurable one. . . I have taken a couple different courses that I feel will better me as a Labour Doula. They are: Advance Comfort Measures for Childbirth and First Aid at a HCP (Health Care Provider) Level taken through the Canadian Ski Patrol.. . Here is a little about myself:. I am a wife of a wonderful and very busy man and a mother of two adorable children. I have a 1.5 year old Daughter and a 4 year old Son. My main background of employment was as a Registered Veterinary Technician but until recently with the birth of my Daughter, I have been looking for something that will allow me to be able to be at home more for my children yet help provide for my family. . Why chose becoming a Labour Doula? Well, it sort of all started with the birth of my Son, I had the privilege of having a close friend who is a Labour Doula attend his birth. I believe that if it was not for her, things would have been a lot different with the way his birth would have went. She was my rock and the one person I could trust and she reassured me that things were going to be ok and I would get through this the way I had wanted. I had wish for a natural delivery, no pain meds, no interventions but as time went on with labour moving VERY quickly, I became overwhelmed and started thinking I can't do this, I need something for the pain. At that point she calmed me down and reassured me I could do it and I didn't need anything and to focus on the end. With that I was able to continue and a short time later I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. . I feel becoming a Labour Doula will give me the opportunity to help other moms and families with their birth wishes, like she helped me and my family with ours.. .
