Detailed description is Branch Manager: Stephen Chalmers Mid-Continent Public Library was established in 1965 and the Excelsior Springs Library joined MCPL in 1968, but public library service in Excelsior Springs, Missouri has a long and rich history which goes back decades earlier.. . There has been a public library in Excelsior Springs since 1909, when the first Excelsior Springs Library was established at 244 East Broadway Street by the Excelsior Springs Civic Improvement Association. The library was located on the second floor of the building above the city restrooms. In 1913, the Carnegie Corporation of New York awarded Excelsior Springs a $10,000 grant for the construction of a new library, which opened at 339 East Broadway Street in 1916. The Excelsior Springs Library was still located in this Carnegie library building in 1968 when it joined the Mid-Continent Public Library system as its Excelsior Springs Branch. In 1973, the Excelsior Springs Branch moved from downtown Excelsior Springs to a new location in the Crown Hill Shopping Center at 135 Crown Hill Road on the west end of town. In 1986, the Excelsior Springs Branch moved again, this time just a couple of blocks to its current location at 1460 Kearney Road (Missouri Highway 10).. . The current site of the Excelsior Springs Branch is a 10,000 square foot building located near the intersection of of Kearney Road and North Jesse James Road, which is convenient for residents of both Excelsior Springs and surrounding areas. Neighboring businesses include Reece & Nichols Realtors and Bank Midwest. There are also several shopping centers in the immediate area, which contain a Sears Hometown Store, a Price Chopper grocery store, a Westlake Ace Hardware store, a Walgreens drugstore, and a Wal-Mart Supercenter, as well as numerous other shops and restaurants.. .
