Detailed description is Middle Tennessee State University is one of the 36 school nation wide who trains students to become Air Traffic Controllers. Thank you for your interest in MTSU’s AT-CTI Program. We are one of the few schools throughout the country that participate in the Federal Aviation Administration’s AT-CTI Program, to prepare men and women for the FAA Training Academy in Oklahoma City. There are an increasing number of controllers that are reaching retirement age. Because of this, there is a growing demand for highly-skilled people to take their place and develop the future of air traffic in the United States. The Air Traffic Control program at MTSU prepares students for employment in air traffic control careers. . Currently, to enroll in MTSU’s AT-CTI program you must be pursuing either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace at MTSU. We have several Aerospace concentrations to choose from, where students then add the courses required in the AT-CTI program. With our new, state-of-the-art Air Traffic simulation equipment, the AT-CTI program has been able to expand greatly. We have installed a seamless, 360 degree Tower simulator. With our Tower simulator we are able to train students on any airport and in every position. Furthermore, we have installed 10 radar suites, allowing us to train students on the Approach and the EnRoute aspects of Air Traffic Control. We also staff retired controllers to instruct the labs. Upon completing the AT-CTI Program, students will have received approximately 100 hours of simulation time. The goal is to train students in an environment as realistic as possible. . In MTSU’s Department of Aerospace, there are several student organizations that provide students insight to aviation careers. Throughout the year, MTSU’s Air Traffic Control Organization takes aerospace students to different Air Traffic facilities such as: Nashville (BNA) tower, Orlando (MCO) tower, Potomac (PCT) TRACON, and Atlanta (ZTL) Center.. MTSU has no restrictions on age or physical conditions of students entering the program. However, students desiring employment with the Federal Aviation Administration should be aware of the FAA employment requirements, such as:. -Air Traffic Control Specialist Medical Examination. -31-year-old maximum age restriction for students anticipating employment in terminal or Enroute options.
