Detailed description is Mobile County Public Schools recognizes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to education. We strive to meet the needs of 57,000 students by providing choices from pre-k through our Schools of Innovation to our Signature Academies. It Starts With Us. School choice starts with us in Mobile County Public Schools. As Alabama's largest school system, we offer more choices than our students and parents could ever imaging. . . That includes our Signature Academies, which are now available in all 12 high schools. These academies are receiving statewide and national recognition because they provide hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for college or careers that are readily available in Mobile County. . . Our myriad of choices start with pre-kindergarten and extend through the 12th grade. We have integrated technology throughout the district in programs ranging from credit recovery to computer coding, 3D design and printing, and robotics. We offer dozens of Advanced Placement courses, including English, history, advanced math and science, studio art and foreign languages. . . Public education started with us when we opened Alabama's first public school in 1836. We continue to be a leader in the state with our innovative programs and the choices we offer. SIGNATURE ACADEMIES: Students can apply for enrollment in any of our 12 high schools, based on their interests and career aspirations. Our Signature Academies are: Aerospace and Aviation at B.C. Rain; Health at Blount; STEM at Mary G. Montgomery; Industry, Manufacturing and Technology at Citronelle; Coastal Studies at Bryant; International Studies at Murphy; Maritime, Engineering and Entrepreneurship at Williamson; Engineering and Industry at Theodore; Engineering at Davidson; Advanced Studies at Baker; Technology at Vigor; and Pre-Law and Health at LeFlore. . . MAGNET SCHOOLS: We have three magnet elementary schools and four magnet middle schools. The elementary schools are: Council Traditional School (college prep); Eichold-Mertz School of Mathematics and Science; and Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts. The middle schools are: Phillips Preparatory; Clark-Shaw School of Mathematics and Science; Denton School of Technology; and Dunbar School of the Arts. . . INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE: We offer pre-IB programs at Council and Phillips and IB at Murphy and Davidson. . . ADVANCED PLACEMENT: All 12 of our high schools offer Advanced Placement courses, and Mobile County Public Schools covers the costs of all student exams. Baker High, which offers two dozen AP courses, is one of three AP Capstone Schools in Alabama. . . MURPHY UNIVERSITY CENTER: Students can take college courses and earn up to 30 hours of college credit through a one-of-a-kind partnership with the University of Alabama Early College. . . CAMBRIDGE PROGRAM: Bryant High is Alabama's first school to offer the prestigious Cambridge Program through Cambridge University in England. . . DUAL ENROLLMENT: Through partnerships with the University of South Alabama and Bishop State, students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously. . . BLUE RIBBONS: Mobile County is home to 13 National Blue Ribbon schools: Austin, Booth, Calcedeaver, Council, Dodge, Hall, Old Shell Road and Spencer-Westlawn elementary schools; Clark-Shaw and Phillips middle schools; and Davidson, Murphy and Vigor high schools. . . SPECIAL SCHOOLS: MCPSS has two stand-alone schools for students with special needs: Augusta Evans and the Southwest Alabama Regional School for the Deaf and Blind.. .
