The Murphey School Radio Show is a musical variety show in the style of old time radio - a cross between Saturday Night Live, Prairie Home Companion, and the Grand Ole Opry - featuring North Carolina celebrities and professional performers. The radio show, recorded live for broadcast on the radio, is a unique fundraising event for various nonprofits in Orange and Durham Counties in NC. It is a project of the Shared Visions Foundation and produced by award winning Minnow Media, LLC. . . The radio show is recorded in the restored 1936 auditorium of the historic Murphey School. The wit, lit and music of the show takes place on the same stage graced by Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubbs, Roy Acuff and Hank Snow back in the day. . . The first Murphey School Radio Show was held in February 2011 and raised more than $10,000 for mental health organizations. The cast and crew have gone on to present eleven shows since then. All the performers donate their time and talent to these unique benefits.
