Detailed description is Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Assoc. -National Historic Landmark- home to The Tabernacle, Cottage Museum, & famous Gingerbread Cottages in Oak Bluffs, MA. Religious camp meetings were first conducted in Wesleyan Grove in August of 1835, with participants staying in tents. The tradition continued annually, and over the years the tents gave way to Victorian Cottages, which were built, primarily from 1864-1875. Over 300 cottages remain, with an iron Tabernacle built in the center of Trinity Park, where religious meetings are still held today during the summer season, as well as educational and community events.
