Detailed description is We oversee air quality on the Nez Perce Reservation; we operate air monitors, issue FARR burn permits and issue air quality advisories/burn bans. Thank you for visiting the Nez Perce Tribe (NPT) ERWM Air Quality Program (AQP) on Facebook. This office participates in Facebook to engage individuals and organizations on time-sensitive information such as burn bans and other air quality-related topics. . . Background:. The Nez Perce Tribe’s ERWM Air Quality Program began in 1997. One of our main responsibilities is running a Federal Air Rules for Reservations (FARR) Burn Permit Program through a delegation agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (see below). We operate a network of three PM2.5 and meteorological monitoring stations and two mobile PM2.5 samplers during the summer. We also operate a Clean Air Status and Trends Network (CASTNET) site. We collaborate with other agencies and participate in local, regional, and national air quality topics. Through partnerships we have conducted air toxics, woodstove, and asthma studies. We also provide compliance assistance and educational outreach, working with area school districts and communities.. . Federal Air Rules for Reservations (FARR):. The FARR became effective on the Nez Perce Reservation in June 2005. The FARR applies to all agencies, businesses, and residents burning on the Nez Perce Reservation and requires an air quality burn permit year-round. Air Quality Burn permits are required for agricultural, backyard (small and large), and forestry burning, and fire department trainings. Cultural or traditional fires and camp or recreational fires do not require a permit.. . Depending on air quality conditions, burn bans may be declared throughout the year. During burn bans no type of burning is permitted, including camp and recreational fires. The only exemption is fires that are set for cultural or traditional purposes.. . Applicants are responsible for compliance with any applicable burn safety requirements and must also obtain applicable fire safety permits. Contact your local fire district or sheriff's office for fire safety permit information.. . Disclaimer:.
