Because of the location of Huntingtown, many athletes that would have gone to Northern go to Huntingtown which doesn't take away from the rivalry. Northern's softball team has won 12 state championships including 8 consecutive Maryland 3A state championships . This is a Maryland state record for consecutive championships. They also had a Maryland state record 77-game winning streak, which was ended in March 2014 by Chopticon High School.
