My name is Robyn Elizabeth and I am a 25-year-old Canadian writer, outdoor adventurer, animal lover, stand up paddler, photography enthusiast, yoga student and a developing yoga teacher. I grew up in Owen Sound, Ontario and moved to Alberta in 2014, where I currently reside in Lac La Biche; a small northern town surrounded by beautiful lakes, close enough to the Canadian Rockies that weekend trips are possible and therefore, plentiful.. . I began practicing yoga when I was 19 years old. Faced with various mental health struggles throughout my teenage years and young adulthood, I discovered yoga as a means for me to re-connect with my body, my mind and my spirit. It brought me closer to knowing my authentic self in an honest and intimate way, something I had lost in years prior. Practicing yoga granted me an opportunity to accept and embrace the present moment as is, and in doing so it supported my recovery and granted me strength and confidence as an individual. I am now incredibly thankful for my strengthening body, my curious mind, my opening heart and regardless of struggles, my happy spirit. Case in point, I love the practice; yoga was and remains a catalyst for positive personal transformation. I am committed to developing my personal daily practice (easier some days than others) as well as regularly attending classes, workshops and trainings to continually expand my knowledge and open myself to new experiences.. . In September of 2015, the opportunity to learn from yoga practitioners Jai Kai and Aman Rai through Sacred Seed Yoga and Ayurveda College presented itself. I completed my 200HR Hatha Yoga Teachers Training in December and I became a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance in January of 2016. I’ve recently decided to continue my training and will be pursuing my 85HR Prenatal Yoga Teachers Training with Mamata Yoga in May of 2016; I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to learn from Clare Newman, Sandy Brown, Heidi Mason and Jules McLean. My teaching style is playful, stimulating and inquisitive. Through guided yoga asana, meditation, pranayama and therapeutic programming, I encourage students to introspect within and experience harmonious being in the present moment. Outside of practicing and teaching yoga, I am a Registered Recreation Therapist with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association and the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association.. . Northwoods Yoga and Wellness is my present focus; a yoga and recreation therapy platform that celebrates the uniqueness of each member. My aspiration is to support each student/client on their personal journey of self-realization and contentment. NYW is a community of nurture for the body, mind and spirit.
