Detailed description is Olds Search and Rescue Society is a ground SAR group, trained for both urban and rural settings.. . "This we do that others may live" Olds Search & Rescue (OSAR) is a professional volunteer organization dedicated to having the vital resources ready to respond to the needs of are community, tasking agencies and any others in need.. . Partners. We have built strong relationships with are local community, government agency's and are local emergency services. . . Olds Search & Rescue is continually committed to Active searches, community events and out reach programs.. . Hug-A-Tree and Survive.. . Olds Search & Rescue began delivering the Hug-A-Tree and Survive training to youth in the grade 3 and 4 age group as a public service to the community in 2002. Since starting the program it has grown in popularity and we have conducted countless sessions in local schools and to youth groups throughout central Alberta.. . Member Training. . Our members have and continue to take training in SAR Fundamentals, First Aid & CPR(standard and wilderness), Navigation(map & compass and GPS), communications (Ham Radio, beacon transceivers Etc) lost person behavior and civil emergencies. Some specific training is given to selected members to help them become search managers, low slope and high angle rescuers and course instructors.. . This training like any other skill only remains sharp when combined with practice. Members give up valuable personal time to sharpen and refine the skill they have a minimal of 25 hours a year.. . . . .
