Detailed description is OTC’s Allied Health Simulation Center is approximately 3,000 square feet and includes three patient rooms; Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/ Emergency room, birthing suite and a medical-surgical room. The Simulation Center also includes a residential suite, two patient clinic environments and a dedicated debriefing space. . . The Simulation Center is equipped with 10 high-fidelity manikins, including four adult simulators, two birthing simulators, two five-year olds, a six-month old infant, and a neonate simulator. . Not only does the Simulation Center provide clinical experiences for nearly 800 OTC students enrolled in Allied Health programs, it also serves the community. A collaborative effort has been established with Cox Health, the Missouri National Guard, the Springfield Army Reserve Medical Unit, and several local schools to train healthcare professionals and promote Allied Health careers. The Center is available to rent to outside groups for multiple training efforts. . . Why is simulation important to the healthcare?. . Simulation offers a more authentic learning experience than a traditional training lab setting. Simulation provides a realistic and safe learning environment where didactic knowledge comes to life through high-fidelity human patient simulators that can speak, sweat, and even provide abnormal breath sounds and heart tones. . . In a simulation setting, instructors reproduce real-life patient experiences that students may otherwise never see in the clinical environment. Students gain confidence in their abilities, and their critical thinking skills are sharpened. This translates into better-prepared health care professionals.. . . .
