Detailed description is Obedience all breeds Gun Dog Training, Hunt Tests, Puppy program "If you are going to go you should GO OVER THE TOP!" Puppy training/Gundog Headstart . This program is geared for puppies 8 weeks and older. Our main focus is to build your dog's retrieve drive, socialization, introduction to live pigeons, puppy marks and gunfire. During the summer months will introduce the puppy to water. We limit this to 2 puppies at a time. The puppies are kept inside are home with our family. We work on crate training and potty training to make the transition to it's new home a successful one. This usually last about 2 weeks and we can go over suggestions on what to work on for when your pet returns for obedience/gundog training... . Obedience All Breeds. This program runs 4-6 weeks. When you dog completes this course they will have achieved these commands:. SIT. STAY. HERE or COME. HEEL. DOWN. KENNEL or PLACE. We will also cover and work on distraction training, on and off leash work. This also includes private training sessions to complete the most important part of this program training the owner. . Gundog Training . This is our most popular program. It runs 3 to 4 months and starts with obedience and ends with the novice gundog training. We understand most owners do not have the time that is needed to train their hunting partner. We offer a diverse in-kennel training programs were we board, feed, and train you dog to your families performance goals. Weather you are looking for family pet, weekend hunting buddy, a grouse dog for up in northern Minnesota, to pheasant hunting in South Dakota or waterfowling in North Dakota or a performance competitive athlete.. Basic gundog Program . We start out with the dogs that are through obedience, are steady (does not break sit command) when bird is shot, retrieves and brings birds to back automatically without prompting involving various hunting scenarios. The first part of your pet's stay we will start with basic commands: SIT, STAY, HERE, KENNEL, HEEL. We will work on leash and then transition off leash then advance. The basic obedience is our foundation needed to advance and building blocks for the next stage of training. . We move to hold, drop, and fetch bumpers and birds on command. This sets the foundation for more advanced training for your dog. Your dog learns to heel in, sit by your side and deliver the bird to your hand. The purpose of force fetch is to prevent your dog from chewing, playing, destroying the bird. This process takes about a month. We take the training that your dog has learned and apply it to a basic retrieve in the field. We show your retriever how to retrieve on command and be steady until sent, how to hunt and find birds in cover, and how to reliably return your birds to hand. We apply this to both land and water. This process takes approximately one month, but can vary from dog to dog. Once your dog understands the process of a basic retrieve, then we begin to introduce him or her to a variety of hunting scenarios. From layout blinds, dog blinds out of cornfields, to hunting on a dog stand in cattails, and a boat on the water. With several types of duck and goose call, decoys, shotgun fire and live birds. We usually do this on Saturday so our clients can come out and get in on the action! Our goal is to try and familiarize your retriever with as many different set-ups as possible so that they can be comfortable in any setting that you might choose to hunt your dog in. The Basic Program is also designed so that your dog is prepared to run the basic level hunt test program for both AKC (Junior) and HRC (Started). . Advanced Gun Dog Training/AKC, HRC Hunt test training . This is a program for advanced training, in the field we may need a dog that can mark and retrieve multiple birds while on a hunt, and be able to respond to hand signals. Hand signals are a valuable tool when the dog does not see the bird fall. The advanced stage of training takes approximately four to six months (over and above the basic program) and prepares your dog to perform at higher level. You will be the person everyone wants to hunt with, as long as you bring your dog! This is an overview of our advanced gundog training/ AKC, HRC Hunt test training: . Multiple Retrieves- Your retriever is taught how to watch and memorize the fall of multiple birds in the field, and retrieve them to hand. . Blind Retrieves- This is one of the most important part of advanced training. Your dog is taught how to take hand signals so that you can direct them to the fallen bird.. Diversions- When your dog is coming back from a retrieve during a hunt, we may shoot another bird and we do not want them to switch birds. Your retriever is trained to finish the retrieve before going out for the 2nd down bird or diversion bird.. Walk-ups- When jump-shooting a duck pond or walking a fence line for pheasants, we train your dog to be steady to shot or stay at your side while walking at heel and a bird flushes in front of you. So the dog doesn't scare the birds or break before being sent to retrieve. . Honoring- We teach your dog to 'honor' another dog's retrieve. Not every bird that falls belongs to your dog, a hunting partner may have a dog of their own and want their dog to make their retrieves.. The Advanced Program is designed to also prepare your dog for the advanced levels of the hunt test programs- AKC (Senior or Master) and HRC (Seasoned, Finished,Upland). . This program is started after your dog has completed the basic gundog training program. It is an additional 4-6 months depending on clients goals. We do upland training too.
