Detailed description is Peer support focus on recovery for those with a mood disorder, family and friends. Sharing experiences peers as role models guide each other to wellness. The Peer-to-Peer Mood Disorder Support Group, Inc. of Peekskill (P2PMDSG) is a non-profit, peer‐guided support group for those living Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxieties, and other life altering mood disorders and their friends, family and/or other supporters. It's focus is to provide support, opportunity and advocacy toward recovery in a self-help, supportive, safe and confidential setting. We seek to educate, inform, advocate toward and inspire wellness.. . P2PMDSG also provides up-to-date educational materials, invites guest speakers, encourages and participates in mental health advocacy and fighting stigma. With these efforts, together with peers as role models, P2PMDSG strives to guide those living with a mood disorder to a state of recovery that includes, but is not limited to, independence, self-efficacy and community involvement.. . Who should attend?. . Individuals diagnosed with, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, (or other mood disorder).. . Friends, family and supporters of those living with a mood disorder.. . If you think you, or a loved one may be dealing with a mood disorder. . . Meetings are open to anyone in need, are free, with no dues.. . Donations are always appreciated.. . Guidelines. . 1. The security and comfort of all members is essential. We embrace diversity, recognize cultural, linguistic, social, racial, age and ability differences and promote their acceptance.. . 2. Confidentiality is paramount. Members are advised not to share what is said in the group outside of the group.. . 3. It is everyone’s responsibility to make the group a safe place to share: we treat each other with respect and kindness, and show compassion. Any individual who does not treat others with respect and kindness will be asked to leave.. . 4. We encourage participation. Remember to “share the air.” Everyone who wishes to share should have the opportunity to do so. No one person should monopolize group time.. . 5. We all know sharing personal information takes courage. While someone is speaking please refrain from interrupting, or making critical or judgmental comments.. . 6. It is also OK not to share. People do not have to share if they don’t wish to.. . 7. Facilitators are members of the group, they, too, have personal experience with a mood disorder and/or a family member or friend with a mood disorder.. . 8. Use the ‘I’ language. Speak from your experience. We are not professionals and strive not to advise, rather share from our own personal stories. We are unique, and only we know what is best for our own health and well-being with input from our health care professionals’.. . 9. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied entry and asked to leave. Anyone who is disruptive, or exhibits inappropriate, threatening or violent behavior will be asked to leave.. . 10. Feedback is expected and encouraged. This is your group. You are responsible for what you bring to it, how you utilize it, and what you take with you. The facilitators welcome and appreciate questions and concerns brought in a constructive manner.. .
