Anyone who was born and raised in Shelby County knows "The Hamilton House," but not many know that the man behind the eponymous title was a retired furniture magnate from Rushville.

John Hamilton built the Victorian mansion in 1853 for his doting wife and their four daughters.
After the deaths of all the John's descendents, the house was willed to the Presbyterian Church in 1932..
Over the next half century the house became a hotel, a hospital annex, and a private residence until local entrepreneurs rennovated the house in 1995.
In addition to being one of the few affordable fine dining options in historic downtown Shelbyville, it is also one of only four locations in town that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
