The Perrysburg Township Board of Trustees voted on July 8th, 2015, to proceed with a renewal police levy on the November 3rd ballot. This levy is NOT a new tax but a renewal of the current existing levy.. . To balance the state budget, the State of Ohio has made deep cuts in the revenues it traditionally has provided to local governments, including townships. Certain taxes were phased out and Perrysburg Township Police Department saw a decrease in over $400,000 from the state over the past 5 years. For the Perrysburg Township Police Department to continue to provide the same level of services going forward, there is a need for a renewal of the current existing levy for a five year term. Assuming the tax valuation of Perrysburg Township remains constant, this 3 mil levy would generate $1,136,973 and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $105 per year.. . The Perrysburg Township Police Department patrols over 35 square miles of Perrysburg Township and strives to keep the 12,500 residents and thousands of workers, students, and visitors in our community safe each day. Expenses have grown more quickly than revenues, as calls for services-and the need for police response-have continued to increase in the community year after year. For the time period between August 2014 to August 2015, general calls for service are up 260%. Crimes against our public, such as theft, are up 85%. As technology continues to evolve, more complex crimes against our public, such as identity fraud, are raidly on the rise.. . Over the last year alone, investigations conducted by the patrol units and detectives have identified and prosecuted members of organized theft rings and those who have compromised credit and debit cards. One of those organized crime rings consisted of two defendants and consisted of $190,000 of stolen merchandise. NIne drug trafficking investigations were completed and prosecuted, including four heroin trafficking cases involving six different defendants.. . A committee in support of the levy has formed.
