Detailed description is Pine Grove Baptist Church is a magnificent building with a history that is equally as rich and stately as its foundation. During the 1800's nearing the end of slavery, blacks had a burning desire to assemble for worship services. Mrs. Irene Darden West, no doubt a kind-hearted white lady and the owner of West Plantation Home, took charge and assembled with a group of blacks on three acres of wooded land that she graciously donated. This congregation was known as Spring Hill. This land located one half mile northwest of the Old West Plantation on Stampley Road amidst a grove of beautiful pine trees later became known as Pine Grove Baptist Church due to its beautiful surroundings.
