Está situado en las montañas al este de Nevada (Estados Unidos), pero su localización exacta permanece en secreto para protegerlo y evitar vandalismos.El 6 de agosto de 1964, un estudiante graduado llamado Donald Currey (1934-2004) cortó el pino longevo Prometheus (Prometeo), nacido aproximadamente en el 3037 a.
