Detailed description is An ideation program to create a social enterprise aimed at solving the clean water crisis in Cape Verde. Clean, safe and drinkable water is a scarce resource that we take for granted. Today, over 1 billion people in the world does not have access to clean water. Lack of access to clean water is a significant perpetuator of poverty and social inequality. Many Cape Verdeans are forced to take extended walks daily to access water reservoirs, this impairs capacity to achieve education and a sustainable source of income. It is also a significant health hazard, as deposits of stagnated water are a source of malaria transmitting mosquitoes. . Cape Verde is an archipelago of volcanic nature with scarce natural clean water sources, minimal rainfall, being in the Sahel region. In 2013 only 60% of homes had access to the public water network and only 50% could rely on it.. To do our part in tackling this international crisis, we created Project Eureka: Bryant University. Eureka is a two day ideation project, facilitating Bryant University students to create a sustainable, scalable and implementable social enterprise to solve the clean water crisis in Cape Verde.. During the two days, teams of students will compete in designing the business project for a social enterprise to address difficulties of access to clean water in Cape Verde, the proposal must be self-sustainable and implementable. Quality and realism of the projects take priority over magnitude, the proposal if implemented will impact real communities. The teams will be aided by mentors and facilitators throughout the process. Projects will be evaluated by a panel of judges, with the winning projects being encouraged to transform their vision into reality with collaboration with sponsors and locals in the country.
