At some point, we all need a little help. Some people can find the support they need in family and friends, some find it through treating themselves with shopping excursions or spa visits, some ignore the issues and hope the stress will go away on its own and some need help from other sources but are not always sure where to look. . . Luckily, for many of those in the last group, there are people in our community who are willing to help without asking for anything in return. In May of 2011, John and Maria Toomey founded Project Hope Again (Formerly Radical Faith and Hope Ministries). “Our ministry is primarily focused on the unemployed and underemployed,” said John Toomey, Licensed Minister at Project Hope Again. “However, we do and will serve anyone who is struggling in these uncertain times. We have lots of free resources available to anyone, no questions asked. All you have to do is contact us! However, I must point out that we cannot give out money to anyone regardless of his or her circumstances. We do not even get paid for what we do, so we maintain full-time secular employment.” . . The ministry as well as Toomey’s pastoral license and credentials are provided by Freedom Ministries Alliance, so he is fully trained and able to handle the concerns of those in need. “Our heart's desire is for people to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ,” said John. “We also desire to see the restoration of hope and faith to those who have lost hope for a better tomorrow. We want people to re-gain their hope and faith that things will get better!” . . Though the root of Project Hope Again is based on religious beliefs, those without faith can still receive help.“If you are not religious, you will not be turned away,” said John. “Our free resources are available to anyone, but we do emphasize that one needs to [have] a knowledge of Jesus Christ to truly be fulfilled in life. This is the first focus of our ministry in addition to other resources. We are also available to anyone who simply needs prayer or to talk to someone who can relate to what they are going through and help them.” . . Perhaps the greatest drive for the Toomey’s is their deep-rooted belief in their faith and the good they are doing in the community. “Maria and I believe in what we are doing because we have experienced the hopelessness and heartache that unemployment can bring on a family first hand,” said John. “We also know from experience that the only way to get through and move on from such heartache is to completely trust and give your life over to Jesus Christ. He is our hope in tomorrow. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone we encounter.” . .
