Using three machines and desktop publishing software we can make durable, attractive novels and poetry collections, historical reissues and agricultural texts, picture books, artists’ books, essays, catalogues, bootlegs and anything else we put our mind to.. . PS Hudson launches in January 2014 and joins twelve other independent studios in North America and Europe which also approach the work of publication as a political strategy: the creation and fostering of public life and discourse, again and again, through bookmaking and other means. . . The hosting of conversations in real spaces is also central to our vision of the publisher’s role. We are interested in the social life of the book. To this end we bring writers, artists and readers together through book launch dinners, art installations, readings, workshops, debates, performances, and work parties. We will also maintain a digital commons on our website where authorized texts can be downloaded for free and annotated online by anyone.. . First, though, comes the creation of well-made and deliberately designed books. Most will cost in the range of $15 or $20. All will be stamped with a d.o.b. and made to order. Milliken). -a romance novel set in 18th-century England (The Merry Widow, Aimee Lutkin). -a pocket-sized guide to organizing for farmers (Punk Yeoman, Greenhorns). -a bound series of illustrated guides to NYC’s harbors and ships, current and historical (Christin Ripley). -a reissue of a 1981 book on Maine boat-building ("Barns, Beams and Boats," Lance Lee). . We print our books on-demand and share profits equally with the authors through a non-exclusive agreement. At the core of this enterprise is a spirit of reciprocity and collaboration that attends not only to the creation of the books but also to their circulation among a readership who cares. PS Hudson books are not merely products for private consumption, but invitations to participate in ongoing public dialogues and form new relationships.. .
