The world’s largest long distance outrigger canoe race welcomes more than 2,500 outrigger canoe paddlers to Kona, Hawaii for five days of events that unfold throughout the September Labor Day holiday weekend including its signature 18-mile long distance race.. . Kai ‘Opua Canoe Club, one of Hawaii’s oldest outrigger canoe clubs, will host crews from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Tahiti, United Kingdom and an estimated 75 crews from the US. Hawaii will be well represented with multiple crews and more than sixty Big Island crews are also expected on the starting line. . .
