Southern hospitality and Louisiana are synonymous with each other so sharing confectionary creations with friends and family was a natural extension of my culinary passion. South Louisiana is the heart of sugar cane country. Summertime fun is running through cane fields with rows separated by tall purplish stalks. During grinding season in the fall, what could be greater than peeking into warehouses to see thousands of pounds of sandy colored crystals pouring down into gigantic mountains of sugar – fresh raw sugar! As an adult, I realized that cherished family recipes made with the freshest sugar imaginable was a truly sweet combination and produced a product that had to be shared. When our family moved to south Texas, I quickly learned as much as we may have been missed, my unique flavorful toffee and other sweet treats may have been missed more! Friendly pleas for toffee swamped us so the shipping process began. . . . We later moved back to Louisiana and in 2008 Maggie Richardson’s Louisiana Sweets became official.
