River Root Farm is a small family-owned vegetable farm nestled into a hillside along Locust Road in Decorah, Iowa. Our mission is to provide our local and regional community with high quality certified-organic produce on a nearly year-round basis; while incorporating the principles of community education and involvement, innovation, and ecological stewardship. Our goal is to contribute to our local food security by increasing local supply outside of the traditional growing season. With our system of mobile, unheated high tunnels, we are able to apply the benefits of season extension and crop protection to numerous crops throughout a calender year.. . We are currently in our fifth year of certified organic production and have four main components of our business; spring plant sales, high tunnel production/extended season vegetable production, certified organic seed production, and our specialty microgreens. We believe that soil is the 'tablecloth on the banquet of civilization'; and that healthy soil makes healthy food, which in turn makes healthy communities.. . You will be able to find our certified organic vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings locally at the Oneota Co-op and Seed Savers Exchange. Look for our fresh local microgreens, salad mixes, fall/winter spinach, cut flower bouquets, tomatoes, shallots, root crops, and more locally at the Oneota Co-op, La Rana Bistro, and Rubaiyat Restaurant. . . Come say hi to us at the Winneshiek County farmers market on Wednesdays (3p-6p) and Saturdays (8a-11a) from May-October!.
