I’ve always enjoyed capturing moments with a camera, but my friends and family will quickly tell you it that it escalated in 2008.
As my daughter was starting her 3rd semester at North Arkansas College, I decided to go back to school myself.
My main goal was a business degree, but you see, my daughter needed to take a photography course to complete her degree in graphic design.
She suggested that it would be a fun course for us to take together, so who was I to argue? She introduced me to all the “cool” college kids as her sister and we had a blast! David Bell was the instructor of the beginning photography class, and I can credit him for my knowledge of how the camera works and what an f stop is.

At the time I had little Cannon Elf point and shoot that easily fit in my pocket.
Naturally it was not long before I realized all the cool stuff you could do with a DSLR and I had a grandbaby on the way.
It just seemed logical to get a new camera! In March of 2009 I purchased a Nikon D-90 with three kit lenses.
As soon as I hit final button on the purchase I went into a full blown panic attack.
Yes, seriously! I was helping my husband build a trucking company, I was a wife, a mother, a soon to be grandmother – I’d never in my whole life spent even half that amount of money on myself! My husband had to literally pull the plug on the computer to keep me from cancelling the order.
Once the camera got here, I WAS IN LOVE! It literally went everywhere with me and I took a LOT of bad photographs! I also got a few keepers.
I would spend hours in front of the computer with photography videos.
I always had a photography book with me to read in my spare time.
I’m still learning every day.
I strive to take at least 30 minutes a day to read or watch a video on something photography related.
There is SO much to learn I know I will never get to it all..

In the beginning I mostly shot nature.
People scared me, and still do sometimes.
I still shoot a lot of landscapes and such, but right now my passion is in fine art portraiture.
Creating a set and photographing a model, then taking the images into photoshop to composite and create a fantasy land scene.
The art in this type of photography really speaks to me.
I also find myself shooting a lot of abstract stuff, though I very rarely share it.
That is one of my goals for the coming year to start to put my “strange” stuff out there.
My husband used to ask me all the time what I was taking pictures of when he saw nothing.
Thankfully, now he just waits patiently! .

Just last month (Oct.
2014) I upgraded/downsized my gear to the Olympus OMD M-1, a mirrorless, micro four-thirds system.
I have to say I LOVE it! My shoulders thank me for the smaller size and weight, and it has much better low light capability than my D-90.
I’m sure it will take me years to figure out everything this camera can do.
I learn something new almost every time I use it! (Oh and I didn’t even have a panic attack when I bought it! LOL! I did, however, feel kinda guilty for a few minutes…).
