Detailed description is Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 14 - Gibsons, Providing 24/7/365 100% Volunteer Marine Rescue in Howe Sound and Strait of Georgia Area. RCM–SAR Station 14 is located on the Sunshine Coast, in Gibsons. Our service area is Howe Sound: Gambier, Anvil, Keats, Pasley Islands, and the North Western coast of Bowen Island, through Shoal Channel half way across Strait of Georgia, north to Whyte Island and south to Passage Island. . . Summer traffic is heavy in our area as Gambier Island, which includes Halkett Bay Provincial Marine Park as well as Long Bay (aka Port Graves, Camp Artaban), are both very popular anchoring destinations from Vancouver. Keats Island hosts Plumper Cove, another Marine Park, which is also within easy range from Vancouver.. . During the 35 years of our existence, personnel have changed, but the dedication to saving lives and property has not. At the moment we have about 15 active and well trained volunteers. We have training sessions twice a week . A thousand volunteer hours a year are spent, of which 300 are on rescue missions. We are well supported by our community which recognizes the value of the services we provide and as such we have received grants from the BC Gaming Commission, the Sunshine Coast Regional District, the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority, and the Sunshine Coast Rotary.. . In 2016 we took delivery of a new Type 1 Fast Response Craft thanks to support from community donations and BC Gaming Grants. . . Our volunteers are our strength.
