Detailed description is 4 mile run and fun walk on August 9, 2014 over picturesque Marshall Trail in Deansboro - T-shirts to all participants - prizes - family fun! The fifth annual 4-mile Ruth Allen Memorial Run and Fun Walk will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Deansboro, NY.. . The run will begin at 9:00 a.m, and will go on for four miles, beginning in front of the Depot on Route 315, continuing down the Marshall Towpath until Burnham Road, turning on to Burnham Road until Route 315, and continuing down Rt. 315 towards Deansboro until the Towpath and the finish line. Walkers remain on the Towpath, covering the entire trail until VanHyning Road before turning back to the finish line. T shirts will be offered to the first 100 registered participants, and there will be a raffle featuring prizes to runners and walkers alike, as well as prizes presented to the overall male and female run finisher, and to the top runners in each category: under 13; 14-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-50; 60-69; 70-79; 80+. Walkers will receive prizes for the oldest and youngest walker, and to the walker who traveled the farthest to participate. Everyone receives a finisher’s award.. . There will be plenty of water during the race, and fruit, sport drink and water available following the event.. . The Run and Walk is named in memory of Ruth Allen, who, for many years, spearheaded the run/ walk, which began in 1995 in conjunction with the Marshall Days in Deansboro. Discontinued a few years ago, that event was under the auspices of the Marshall Historical Society. For the past three years, however, the Run and Walk has been held thanks to the generosity of the Town of Marshall Brothertown Association, Inc. . . The proceeds of the Run and Fun Walk are targeted for a scholarship in Ruth’s name, named the Ruth Allen Citizenship Award, presented to a deserving graduating high school senior who has been involved in volunteer work in the Deansboro area, and who will carry on Ruth's values and commitment to community. Last year's recipient was Stephanie Yoxall.. . The organizers of the Ruth Allen Memorial Run and Fun Walk hope to emphasize the beauty and uniqueness of the area around Deansboro by having the run and walk mostly on the Marshall Towpath (former O&W rail bed). The work of the beavers adjacent to the trail is certainly a sight to behold.. .
