Detailed description is Sacred Circle Herbals is farm + craft co dedicated to crafting the finest quality organic, natural, and wild foraged products for body, mind and spirit. Growing up and living in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts is a blessing and I am lucky to call this enchanted place my home... September 2008 I packed my life up and head out west! Northern California and my boyfriend Shane Clark welcomed me with open arms.... . While making my home in Humboldt County with Shane we completed Beginning with Herbs, a course taught by Jane Bothwell of the Dandelion Herbal Center at Moonrise Herbs in Arcata, California. This class was an excellent introduction to the world of healing plants and showed us that this is the path we are to follow. . . In February 2009 Shane and I began the 10-Month Herbal Studies Program which was very exciting. This was a more intense 130-hour program designed for the serious herb student. Classes went into more detail and focused on herbal therapeutics, materia medica, medicine making, plant identification, seaweeds, wild foods, herbal first aid, flower essences, herb gardening and the magic and spirit of plants. We went on field trips which gave us the opportunity to forage and wildcraft herbs and seaweeds, visit local herb farms and manufacturing businesses, and explore and identify herbs growing in different ecosystems. We graduated from this program in November 2009 earning certificates from both Rosemary Gladstar of Sage Mountain and Jane Bothwell of Dandelion Herbal Center.. . We also enrolled in a 7-Month Festival of Herbs Visiting Teachers Series which began in October 2009 where the herbalists came to us and was designed for advanced herbal students and health care practitioners. Each class weekend we had the opportunity to study with a different incredible herbal teacher. We had teachers such as Cascade Anderson Geller, Candis Cantin, James Green, Karen Uphoff, Pam Montgomery, Mindy Green and Rosemary Gladstar.. . In January 2010 we got the chance to be a part of an Herbal Clinic Class where we were able to refine and expand our herbal counseling skills, evaluate case studies and meet with clients. This class gave us more in depth perception and practical skills which ultimately imparted confidence when applying our herbal knowledge.. . January also gave me an incredible opportunity to assist Jane with teaching the 2010 Beginning with Herbs course at Moonrise Herbs - which is where it all began for me!. . At the end of Summer 2010 Shane and I made the trek across the country from Arcata/Eureka, California back to Lee, Massachusetts where we helped his father relocate his annual and perennial nursery business, Clark’s Nursery, to 12-acres of timeworn farmland which boasts potential. Upon relocating back to where we both grew up we were unsure of what to do with ourselves. I began teaching art at Lee Middle and High School, where we both graduated from, and Shane has become a Sales Representative for a uniform company while we both help out with the family nursery business. We began expanding the recently relocated Clark’s Nursery by growing organic vegetable starts, organic herbs, organic fertilizers and offering all natural free range chicken and duck eggs. . . Shane and I became engaged in February of 2011, were married in August of 2012 and continue to make herbal products for family and friends. We would like to be able to share our knowledge and products with our Berkshire County community and beyond! In order to make this a reality in Massachusetts we need to construct a processing facility with a commercial kitchen that is approved by the Board of Health and accompanied by a ServSafe certificate of completion. . . We plan to one day open up an herbal store of our own and participate in local farmer’s markets and craft fairs which will include growing and selling fresh and dried herbs, setting up herbal gardens for people, selling our tinctures, salves, pills, syrups, liniments, teas, lotions, candles, bath salts, soaps, incense, liqueurs, cordials and more! We would love to be able to add year round & seasonal festivities on the farm, a holistic & organic herbal boutique, classes, workshops and an art studio space. . . Currently I am an art teacher and going back to school in the evening to obtain my Masters in Art Therapy. My dream is to be able to combine art, therapy and herbs and would look something like... a weekend workshop in a wooded area with some type of primitive structure where people come to work through issues and/or express creativity with painting an introspective personal mandala, exploring who they are, while sipping healing herbal teas, inhaling relaxing essential oil vapors and eating nourishing local and organic foods while restoring their body, mind, and spirit - get balanced, let go of the technology overload, the daily hustle and bustle and connect with the Earth's energy… . . We also plan to continue our herbal education on the East Coast.. . - Nicole Webster Clark
