Open: M-F 8 AM - 5 PM or by Appointment Safe Talk For Teens is a nonprofit Resource Center established to provide Early Intervention & Prevention services for teenagers with unmet needs in our community. Our mission is to assist, guide, redirect and motivate teenagers to make better decisions by focusing on their values and setting goals.. We target teens (ages 13-19) but we will also provide services for children as young as 8. Many of these teens quite often are trying to navigate through the challenges and difficulties of teenage life. At times, they exhibit early warning signs such as truancy, declining grades, changes in behavior at home and school, use and/or abuse of alcohol and/or drugs, family issues, and relationship issues.. Our services include a free, safe, and confidential venue for teenagers and their families to meet with Joe Dufur, who served as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Washoe County for over 25 years. We focus on decision making, utilizing a Values Clarification/Goal Setting Exercise. When necessary we act as a portal by referring to counselors and programs in the area. We also offer a Work Experience/Business Partnership Program which partners teenagers with local businesses for paid jobs, mentorship, and the teaching of business management skills.. In many of our teenagers, we see positive outcomes very quickly, in terms of their grades, attendance, social behaviors, and relationships with their parents.. A number of them show improved ability to face conflict, solve problems, and identify their values as they make decisions daily.
