Saint Louis Vocal Arts Institute provides individual private voice lessons to students of all ages in the areas of classical, opera, musical theatre, American songbook, and other genres.. . Lessons focus on healthy singing technique, including proper breath support, tonal production, registration, diction, style, and performance presentation. They may also include aspects of music theory, sightreading, practice techniques, and deal with issues regarding performance anxiety. Attention is given to cultivating performance artistry -- regular studio and master classes and recital opportunities allow students to hone these skills in a supportive environment, where they spend ample time on stage, and receive positive feedback and constructive criticism from instructors and fellow singing peers. . . Current and former STLVAI students have regularly participated in district and state solo festivals, competitions and NATS auditions, have been selected as soloists for oratorio, opera, choral and theatrical productions, and have been accepted into and received scholarships for university music programs and young artist programs. Students gain poise and confidence in their performing and a deeper understanding of their own vocal and musical capabilities. The ultimate goal of these lessons is for students to learn to be their own teachers, so that one day they no longer depend on the instructor for specific technical and stylistic instruction but for mentorship, encouragement, and honest feedback as they pursue their dreams.. .
