Sammy’s Seafood Inc. is a fresh seafood purveyor in Southwest Florida, founded in 2002 by the husband and wife team of Emilio and Katie Sosa - both marine biologists with a concentration in aquaculture and fish health. Based in St. Petersburg, Sammy’s receives fresh local catch from their commercial fishing vessels everyday of the week—dive boats (hook and line/speared), long liners and local crabbers. Fresh local clams arrive from Joe’s Island a few times a week and fresh local oysters are trucked in from Apalachicola several times a week. In the summer season these same trucks can bring in local, freshly farmed soft shell crabs as well. Northern product from Boston and Alaska arrive on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in season. Product can include flounder, haddock, razor clams, steamers, Blue Points, Malpeques, PEIs, caviar, stripers, etc. West coast shellfish (kumamotos, Hunter Points, Fanny Bays) are flown in twice a week. Sammy’s Seafood has recently teamed up with Mote Marine Lab and is helping market their sturgeon, both the meat and the caviar.
