La construcción del edificio que acoge esta institución fue terminada 2014 y los funcionarios comenzaron a trabajar allí en noviembre de ese año. Además, el BCE ha matenido la anterior sede cuyo alquiler cuesta 200.000 euros al mes.CaracterísticasLa construcción se llevó a cabo en el solar que ocupaba el Großmarkthalle, mercado mayorista de frutas y verduras de Fráncfort. Así, el nuevo edificio se integra a la anterior obra diseñada por Martin Elsaesser y cuya construcción se extendió de 1926 a 1928.La obra consta de dos torres gemelas poligonales proyectadas para albergar a 2.900 empleados.La extensión urbanística de la obra se extiende a las dos orillas del río Meno en Ostend, en la zona este de Fráncfort.Cronología1928, se inaugura el mercado mayorista de Fráncfort. 1942, el edificio es administrado por la Gestapo. 2002, el BCE convoco un concurso internacional de arquitectura, al que se presentaron 300 arquitectos de 31 países. 2004, Coop Himmelb(l)au gana el concurso. 2008, el edificio fue llamado como Skytower o sky-tower, 2010, los principales trabajos de construcción comenzaron en junio. Los trabajos preparatorios sobre el edificio de la Grossmarkthalle ya habían comenzado a finales de abril de ese año. 2014, se termina la construcción del complejo y los funcionarios inician sus labores. 2015, la sede fue inaugurada en medio de fuertes manifestaciones en contra.
