Shoes from the Heart is a grass roots organization where 100% of the funds raised go into providing shoes to not only at-risk youth, but any youth in need. We believe in making a difference in the lives of youth and their families that are in need. We simply provide a basic need that we cannot live without…shoes. Our mission is to support the children of our community and region in their time of need, and work towards a greater good. We help all seeking help in a time of need. Our organization serves people of all races, creeds, and religions. We do not discriminate. We merely support all children, and serve as a guiding light.. Shoes from the Heart provides thousands of new tennis shoes to children across Missouri, and surrounding states. We pride ourselves on keeping everything local. Every dollar that is donated in an area stays in that area. We partner with local Head Starts along with schools districts, local DFS agencies and Women battered shelters, by helping those children and families in need. Shoes from the Heart was started in 2012 when the late Cindy Bonuchi had a vision when challenged in her Sunday school class to help children and families no questions asked by providing new tennis shoes to them, in 2012 along with two Sunday school classes, we helped 526 children our first year, in 2013 we helped over 1100 children in eight counties. In 2014 we became an official 501 c3 serving 30 counties and providing over 2200 new shoes. In 2015 we expanded to 74 counties in Missouri along with helping children in Iowa, Illinois and Kansas totaling 5000 children served. 2016 projections will be helping over 10,000 children in need and in 2017 we project on helping over 200,000 children. . What makes Shoes from the Heart different? Our programming is based on the premise that we don’t just provide a child with a new pair of tennis shoes. We measure or find out their shoe size to ensure a proper fit. We pair them one-on-one with a community volunteer, who takes a special interest and helps them with their new tennis shoes. We make them the center of attention, and by giving them a properly fitted pair of tennis shoes, their self-esteem shines, as this is the first pair of new shoes some children have ever had. The need of these children is overwhelming. When we deliver the new tennis shoes, many of the kids have on ill-fitting shoes, as we see shoes with huge holes or duct tape on them. When volunteers put on the new tennis shoes we see the biggest smile.. In the short-term, Shoes from the Heart provides a simple necessities in a fun and exciting atmosphere. But long after the recipients outgrow their shoes, we hope children will remember their positive interaction with a caring community volunteer and the feelings of that experience when making decisions in the future..
