Detailed description is Sierra College Regional Fire Academy's goal is to give students the tools and education to be the most competitive fire service applicants in the nation; and to make them successful as a new firefighter once hired by a professional fire service agency. The Firefighter I Academy is offered through partnerships with the Placer and Nevada County Fire Chief’s Associations and The City of Roseville Fire Department. Sierra College is recognized by the California State Fire Marshal and the State Board of Fire Services as an Accredited Regional Training Program.. . Students must enroll in FT 100, Firefighter I Academy (500 hours) and PE 200 Fire Academy Physical Training (80 hours). Prerequisites to the Academy require completion of Fire Technology 1, Fire Protection Organization and Health Science 2, Emergency Medical Technician.. . The Firefighter I Academy is offered in an extended format (evenings and weekend classes), which enables students to maintain employment while preparing for a career in the fire service. The fall Academy is held August through December, and in the spring, January through late May.. . Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday nights and on Saturdays. Classes may also be scheduled on some Friday nights and Sundays. The Physical Training classes meet on Monday and Wednesday nights.. . Upon successful completion of the Academy, students will meet the training requirements for the California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I. Student will then be able to apply for the Certification after successful competition of the task book and experience requirement, one year as a Volunteer or Reserve firefighter or six months as an Intern/full time paid firefighter with a California fire department. The California State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently working towards National accredited certification, which is approved by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board). Student completing the Academy will be eligible to apply for these additional certifications in the future. Students will also receive the following State Fire Training certificates:. (subject to change). . Basic Incident Command System—ICS 100. NIMS-700a. Confined Space Awareness. Hazardous Materials First Responder—Operational (CSTI ). Fire Control 3B. Raid Intervention Crew Tactics. Vehicle Extrication. California Department of Forestry—Basic Firefighter. S-130 Basic Wild land Firefighter. S-190 Beginning Fire Behavior. L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service . S-134 LCES. Swift Water Rescue Awareness. . Material and Uniform Costs:. . Note: Some Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Academy, with the exception of footwear, hoods, and gloves (for health reasons). Students must also provide their own uniforms.
