Detailed description is Turning collegiate men into True Gentlemen Founded nationally in 1856 at the University of Alabama- Tuscaloosa and locally in march 1913, Sigma Alpha Epsilon was started by 8 men to promote the highest standards of friendship, scholarship, and service for our members based upon the ideals set forth by our Founders and as specifically enunciated in our creed- The True Gentlemen.. . From that one chapter alone, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has grown to be a robust fraternity. Currently 227 chapters and 16 colonies make up the fraternity with over 10,500 active undergraduates participating in their chapters at their respective schools. On top of that there have been over 303,000 total initiated members, with currently 190,000 living alumni working in various industries and professions such as medicine, business, law, engineering, etc.. . Being a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon has a lot of opportunities. Each year Sigma Alpha Epsilon runs the John O. Moseley Leadership School. At this school over 800 brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon get on a cruise ship and for 4 days spend the time learning leadership and other various skills to bring back to their chapter and to carry with them for the rest of their life. Biannually Sigma Alpha Epsilon also has our convention. Also for a distinct 25 undergraduates picked from fraternity get to participate in the inner circle. These 25 brothers spend a weekend, all expenses paid for them, and they learn one on one leadership experiences from some of the most dignified members of our fraternity. . . To assist our collegiate members in their academic pursuits, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation awarded more than $300,000 through its National and Chapter Education Fund academic and Leadership School scholarship programs. National scholarships may be awarded to any qualified brother from any chapter who applies for one of the more than 40 named scholarships. Chapter Education Fund scholarships, on the other hand, may only be awarded to qualified brothers from the fund’s designated chapter(s). For example, of the more than 725 undergraduate brothers who attended the 77th John O. Moseley Leadership School, 265, or 36.5 percent, received a Leadership School Tuition Scholarship from the Foundation. Without those funds, the delegates could not have attended. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation thanks the brothers and friends who make our scholarship program, perhaps one of the greatest Foundation programs, possible.. . The local chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon is also an unique, diverse family. Each and every year we do many things campus and in the community. Each winter holiday season, our brothers assist the Western Pennsylvania school for the blind in setting up their annual Christmas tree drive. Likewise with a large number of brothers currently serving and training in the military. we do donations drives for the Wounded Warrior Project- a philanthropic group that helps disabled veterans. As being a family, it is also not uncommon to see us out on our patio shooting a game of hoops or grilling out on the patio with friends. All in all having a good time.
