Detailed description is Sisters of Mercy is a radical women's choral ensemble on Salt Spring Island with a focus on Community Building, Decolonization and Activism. . Sisters of Mercy is a Woman's Choir on Salt Spring Island with a focus on Community Building, Cultural Integration and Activism. Choir Director Rama DeLaRosa conceived this choir in November of 2016 at the time of the passing of music legend Leonard Cohen. . . "Oh, the sisters of mercy, they are not departed or gone. They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on. And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me this song. Oh, I hope you run into them, you who've been travelling so long". . . The Sisters of Mercy vision is to serve and empower local community through singing to effect global change.. . Our focus is tri-fold. *Community Building. *Cultural Integration. *Activism. . *COMMUNITY BUILDING - Sister's of Mercy focus on community building is to provide sacred song for rights of passage and ceremony in the community such as rights of birth, coming of age, croning, death, and community outreach. . . *CULTURAL INTEGRATION - Sister's of Mercy focus on Cultural Integration is to provide opportunities for women to learn songs from guest teachers from a variety of different cultural lineages. To both enrich our lives through the many flavours of songs from around the world and also support these traditions by employing traditional teachers and keeping these songs alive.. . *ACTIVISM - Sister's of Mercy focus on Activism is to empower woman through the power of singing and for us to bring that unified force to support Social Justice and Environmental causes on Salt Spring Island. . . Sisters of Mercy meets every Monday from 5:-7:pm at the 3rd Floor Core Inn.. Admission is available by membership or walk-in.. . Membership is limited. New Members may inquire by email at sistersofmercychoir@gmail.com. . Membership Benefits:. Choir members receive access to weekly rehearsals that provide professional vocal training, harmony arrangement and choral direction, as well as discounts and incentives on workshops and private voice lessons. (Membership discounts are available by request for Rama's private vocal students as well as previous members of the Gaia Soul Sistahs.). . ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP: The annual tuition is $200 per year . .
